The Balancín Monarchy, formally the Monarchy of the Kingdom of Rockfield, was the constitutional monarchy of Rockfield from the Kingdom's formation in 2640 until the abolition of the monarchy in 2986 with the reformation of the United Federation of Planets. Following Rockfield's independence in 3005, the new country opted for a republican system of government instead of a return to the constitutional monarchy. The head of the monarchy was the head of state of the Kingdom of Rockfield, with the first being Philip the Great.
The Monarchy was first established in 2640 when the noblemen of the Spanish colony of the Rock in Doggerland declared independence. The petty lord, popular among the local people, was crowned King Philip I of Rockfield in 2640, fighting for Balancín Independence. Throughout his fifteen year reign, Philip I gained the reputation of a people's monarch. He allowed for the creation of the first Cortes Generales in 2648 and garnered the nickname Philip the Great.
The Monarchy continued in much the same form for the next three-hundred years as Doggerland became more and more developed and populated. Ultimately, with the reformation of the United Federation of Planets in the 2980s, Rockfield opted to support the Federation and the monarchy was abolished. The last King of Rockfield before the interregnum, Charles VI, remains alive to this day at age 90.
In February 3021, Rockfield El Presidente Emiliano Matias Alejandro announced a constitutional referendum on whether or not to restore the monarchy to a new constitutional position. In March, the referendum passed and the monarchy was restored with Charles VI re-ascending to the throne. Three months later, Charles passed away, causing a succession crisis for the throne.

Style of the Balancin Monarchs
The style of the Monarchs of Rockfield has changed overtime. The contemporary term "Your Majesty" was adopted by Philip II in 2750 after a dispute with the Spanish Emperor, Juan V, who attempted to belittle Philip with his grander title. Philip II requested that Parliament grant him the title "Emperor of Rockfield", but this was denied by liberal reformers. They did, however, upgrade his style from "His Highness" or, sometimes, "His Grace".
