Philip III (Philip Caesar Caliban; 7 December 2889 - 9 January 2976) was King of Rockfield for 34 years between 2941 and his death in 2976. Philip was the first King of the Royal House of Caliban and the last monarch to die. His son, Charles VI, became the last King of Rockfield upon his abdication and the dissolution of the monarchy in 2986.
Philip's entire life was as a key and notable figure within the Royal Family and in Rockfield politics. Philip served as Chancellor of the Navy between 2910 and 2915 and later as an advisor to his mother, Queen Isabel. His father, Prince Daeron Caliban, was a key figure in his early life, with their relationship being described as "the most honest and caring relationship in the court of Queen Isabel". The young Prince's life was spent working in government, the military and within the institutions of the crown. He received no formal education and was said to have lacked key knowledge expected of any ordinary person. Despite this, he had a keen sense of duty, comradery and common sense. In his later life, Philip returned to education and became a Master of Philosophy. Towards the end of his days, Philip became known as "Philip the Wise".
His ascension to the throne in 2941 was a momentous and historic occasion: his mother, Queen Isabel, had ruled for 33 years. Her death was a globally recognized moment of mourning, with Philip's ascension becoming one of the most viewed and attended events in Rockfield's history. In addition, his coronation as King marked the formal start to Rockfield's alliance with Lancastria, due to his marriage to Princess Lydia of Lancastria - who then became Queen Lydia.
His reign was a long one, in which he mostly stayed out of the business of the state - unlike his very active mother. Philip became more of an Ambassador for Rockfield than a politician, a role which gained him international applause in the middle of the 30th century. Upon his death in 2976, his eldest son Charles ascended to the throne. While Philip's reign was not considered a golden age, like those of Charles V and Oberon, it was a time of peace and prosperity for Rockfield.
