The Walkerton National Party, or WNP (officially the Walkerton Nationalepartei) is a political party in Walkerton striving for independence from Wiltshire. Following the 3019 Walkerton Conflict, the WNP currently holds no representatives in either the Wiltshire National Assembly or the Walkerton Stadtrat. In July 3020, with the death of its exiled leader Willem Heinberg, the party was released from its ban on standing in Wiltshire elections. It is standing candidates in the October 3020 Wiltshire Local Elections for the Walkerton City Council (Stadtrat) and will contest the December election for Mayor.

The party is currently leader-less, and will hold a leadership election on 20 September 3020.

History

The WNP was formed in 3010 following the election of Jaresh Inyo as Conservative Prime Minister of Wiltshire. Inyo, who had won very few votes in Walkerton, won a majority of the vote and was unpopular within the borders. The City Government Act of 3012 gave Walkerton a new City Council (outside of the control of the central government) and so the Walkerton National Party began to gain small amounts of power.

In the 3014 elections, the WNP became the second largest party (behind the Socialist Party, who has been historically dominant in the region) and so joined with the Communists and Greens to form a coalition. This was the first time Socialists were not in government in Walkerton. They did regain power a year later in 3016, however. In 3019, Willem Heinberg's reformed WNP led the party to victory in the Local Elections which resulted in them forming a majority government. This led directly to the 3019 Independence Vote and to the declaration of Independence which caused the Walkerton Conflict and the ex-communication of Willem Heinberg.
