The Republic Party was created on 25 December 3025 by governor-general-elect Ray Banes as a merger and formal unification of the Conservative and Liberal parties. The two parties served in a coalition together, under prime minister Audrick Hill, before proposing the cornerstone piece of legislation of the Republic party: the Secular Bill of Rights, which passed into law on 25 December. The bill divided the Conservatives and risked to bring down Audrick Hill's government, with the subsequent merger being used to support the continuation of Hill's administration until the 3026 general election.

The party is a liberal conservative secularist party on the centre-right of the ideological spectrum. Its leadership structure is unique, with three co-leaders forming a leadership council (Ray Banes, Audrick Hill, and Amy Raab). Ahead of the 3026 election, Hill was selected as the Republican prime ministerial candidate. The party's main ideological opponents are the Commonwealth party, the Concord party, and the Covalence party.
