Republic of Paxem

The Republic of Paxem, or simply, Paxem, is a nation primarily located on the Eastern side of the Doggerland Bank. It consists of one capitol state and five depency states (formerly 6, before Novenæ gained independence from the country). It is the second-largest country on the Doggerlands by land mass after the Oscdean State, and the largest by population. Its capitol and most populous city is Cyrene, which is also the most populous city on the continent.

History

Founding (3021)

The Republic of Paxem was officially founded on August 1st, 3021, following the dissolution of the Neu Corporate Republik. Directly after the coup d'etat which saw Republik Chancellor Florian Steinbauer removed from power and arrested, a group of political theorists, businessmen, and revolutionary figures convened in Novenæ to draft the framework for the new nation. After less than a week, the Paxemese Constitution was finalized and signed by all at the convention, coming into law on August 7th, 3021. Each ex-Republik state held popular referendums on whether to join the nation, with Novenæ, Aquinas, Senones, Zaandam, and Neu Wiltshire (now Winden) becoming member states of the new republic, with Novenæ being the capital.

Formative Years and Construction of Cyrene (3021-3022)

Most scholars accept the date of August 1st, 3021, as the official date of Paxem's founding, despite the nation's constitution coming into effect almost a week later. Mycroft Morsehead gave a speech on this date, announcing the dissolution of the Neu Corporate Republik, Florian Steinbauer's arrest, and the formation of the new nation, before his speech was cut short by an assassination attempt. Over the next week, over two hundred people convened in the main chamber of the partially-gutted Novenite Parliament building, working to establish a functional system of government, while the transitory military government led by Heint Strömbar held the nation in a state of absolute martial law. Upon the establishment of the constitution, Strömbar's government relinquished power to the new government, led by Mycroft Morsehead and a temporary parliament of three hundred individuals elected from the dependencies.

Two weeks later, this temporary Parliament was replaced by the first Paxemese Senate, consisting of 10,000 members voted from districts within each of the dependencies and Cyrene. This election, conducted with the help of the Wiltshire Elections Authority, was the largest election to have taken place since the fall of the Federation. The election coincided with the start of construction of the city of Cyrene, namely the Federal District, which would house the newly-appointed Senate. While construction was underway, the Senate was forced to meet online as there was no building large enough to house it. This presented issues in the Senate's first major vote on whether to allow Triumverat Mycroft Morsehead to select the other two members who would join him as the executive leaders of the country.

The Triumverate was officially announced on October 18th, with the three members being revolutionary figure Mycroft Morsehead, Zaandam Mining Corporation CEO Donna Winters, and Neurosurgeon Kotomichi Satoro. All members of the Triumverate were in some way connected to anti-Republik activities and
