Bernard Gill Canterbury (October 2, 2964 - December 9, 3019) was a Wiltshirian politician who served as Leader of the National Party and in a number of key ministerial positions in the Grey Ministry and Balfour Ministry. Canterbury started his career as a Member of the National Assembly for the Wiltshire First Party, growing to become Minister for Trade and International Development during the Conservative/Wiltshire First Coalition of early 3019. This put him in a prime position to succeed the leadership of the party when, in April 3019, Michele Yarner (the Party's longtime leader) resigned. Canterbury was easily elected Leader based on an anti-Novanite and anti-immigration platform that he would push for the rest of his career.
Canterbury led Wiltshire First to their best ever election showing in June 3019 when the party won 26 seats, becoming the second largest party (only 3 seats behind Labour). The incumbent Labour Government, led by Rita Smith, was not able to secure a majority of support in the Assembly and so Canterbury was tasked with putting together a coalition. He was able to get the Leaders of the Liberal Alliance, Lucy Hobbs, and the Leader of the Green Party, Don Halloway, around the negotiating table and came to an arrangement to form a National Coalition.
However, many - especially in the Green Party - were unwilling to work in a government led by Canterbury himself. This was, for the most part, due to his support of extreme anti-immigration policies. Canterbury, in an attempt to forge a lasting alliance, voluntarily withdrew his name from consideration for the leadership of the Coalition. In due course, Fillmore Grey was elected Leader and Canterbury would serve as Leader of the Assembly and later Foreign Minister.
Following the September Mutiny, Prime Minister Jim Balfour was missing and his government was dissolved. The Kohl Caretaker Ministry was formed and new elections were called. Canterbury was now the leader of the National Party and contested the elections, however, failed to gain much traction as many in Wiltshire were resentful of the poor economic situation - many attested this to Balfour himself. Canterbury was, however, elected to the new Wiltshire Parliament. However, a few days later, was killed in a mass suicide of Parliamentarians.
