September 3019 Washington Executive Elections

From TCH Archive
TBC

Elections to the Washington City Council took place on September 8, 3019 as apart of the wider September 3019 Novanite Presidential Election. The election was for all 205 City Councillors and a wider election for mayor. The election was the second for Washington under the Novanite Federation and would also be the last. The election saw former Wiltshire Prime Minister Audrick Hill elected Mayor, who has served ever since. Hill will have to seek re-election in March 3020.

The election was mostly overlooked, due to the far more important Presidential Election going on. However, it did shape the political landscape of Washington massively - allowing the Conservatives to re-gain control from the incumbent Green Party Mayor, Ernest Stone.

This election was the first to see a complete separation from Wiltshirian politics.

Background

The date of the election was decided by the Federal Elections Authority. The date coincided with the largest ever single day election in the Doggerland's history. However, if the re-aligning hadn't taken place, the election would have been held in August 3019.

Incumbent Mayor Ernest Stone was the first ever Green Party head of government elected in Wiltshirian history and was elected on the basis of Green politics - mostly off the wave of pro-green parties due to the Winter of 3018 and the climate crisis which was causing major problems, including the soon to occur hurricane which would ravage Wiltshire. Stone's election was historic, however, it became quickly evident that with a Conservative controlled Council, the Mayor would not be as affective as he would like to have been and so would have a hard time getting re-elected.

The campaign was, again, mostly ignored and Hill's election considered mostly expected. Conservatives had held the mayorship of Washington for over a year before Stone's election and so many believed that it would be easy to return to Conservative hands.
