The Palamares-class artillery ship is a ship with the purpose of hanging out in the rear of a fleet and bombarding enemy ships with its main weapon: the lance railgun. The ship itself is built around the railgun. The ship is extremely vulnerable when it is by itself, which is why it must be as far away from enemy ships as possible and always protected by other ships. The Palomares provides a very high level of artillery damage in the Dark Angels Navy, meaning it can heavily damage and cripple ships similar to its size with its railgun. This ship is known for being able to penetrate the armor of enemy ships in a single shot.
