House Maekar is a noble house in the Kingdom of the Rock currently headed by the claimant Queen Mary I. Traditionally the lords of the Dreadfort - the most westerly Balancín castle - the House Maekar has been a powerful family within the Kingdom of the Rock since its inception by Lord Maekar the Brutal, who sieged the Dreadfort during the restoration conquest of Antony Edmund II.
The current head of House Maekar is, officially, the claimant Queen Mary I. However, the lordship of the Dreadfort (and the effective leadership of the House) is held by her uncle, Lord Zacarías Maekar. Mary is the daughter of the previous Lord, Lord Roberto, who married the daughter of King Charles VI. House Maekar has declared for the girl, raising the Dreadfort in open rebellion against the reign of Brandon I, the Usurper.
