Gustav Nixon (born 7 February 2979) is a Wiltshirian politician and political strategist who is currently serving as Deputy Prime Minister of Wiltshire and Foreign Minister under the Conservative government of Owen Lassiter. Prior to his appointment to the national cabinet, Nixon served for one year as Mayor of Juneville during the Wiltshire Civil War and the subsequent destruction of many parts of the city.
Nixon's political journey started in the 2990s when he volunteered the political campaign of Jaresh Inyo for President of the United Federation of Planets. A lifelong conservative, Nixon followed Inyo to Wiltshire during the post-war migrations of the early 31st century. Eventually, Nixon became a political strategist for Inyo's daughter, Sonya Inyo. He was the mastermind behind the 3019 and 3020 Tory majorities, eventually serving as Inyo's Chief of Staff and Chief Political Strategist. When Sonya Inyo was elected President, Nixon launched his own political career. He initially sought a seat on the Wiltshire National Assembly but dropped out when the open Juneville mayoral election started. He ran against incumbent Labour Mayor William Tork and defeated him. Nixon served as Mayor of Juneville throughout the Wiltshire Civil War and was notable for being one of the few politicians not to evacuate the city during Pearson's insurgency and the subsequent Paxemese bombing campaign.
As one of the best political minds of the 31st century, Owen Lassiter approached Gus Nixon in 3024 to help him organise the reformation of the Wiltshire Conservative Party. With Lassiter's support, they successfully united most of the right-of-centre parties in Wiltshire and Lassiter went onto win a majority in the 3024 general election. After the election, Nixon was appointed Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.
Early life and career
Nixon was a child of the second Federation. He grew up during the era of Grand Tarkin and Jaresh Inyo, as well as the political legacy of the Federation/C.E. war. Nixon lived a relatively normal life throughout the 2980s and 2990s, living in a number of different Almere Socialist Republic cities, eventually settling in Minevgrad.
He attended the Vlad Sirnim Highschool, and graduated college with a degree in political science. He served a number of local governments in Minevgrad, moving to Wiltshire in 3018 to work for the Conservative Party. His skills quickly gained him credibility within the party, being promoted to Chief Strategist in early 3019. He is often accredited to winning the 3019 Wiltshire government shutdown for the Conservatives, and winning a majority at the subsequent election.
