Grace Daines

From TCH Archive

Dr. Grace Sutton-Daines (nee Sutton; born 3 Janary 2981), more commonly known by her marital name, Grace Daines, is a Wiltshirian physician-scientist and politician who is currently serving as the 25th Prime Minister of Wiltshire since 3022. Daines was elected to the position of Prime Minister in December 3022 following the forced resignation of Mario Giordano during the 3022 Wiltshire government crisis. A member of the Stability Party of Wiltshire, Daines leads a majority government and is said to be among the most conservative Prime Ministers in Wiltshirian history. She previously served as Mayor of the Arches in 3022.

In her early carerr, Daines was best known as a medical practicioner. She served as a general physician at Wiltshire General Hospital in Juneville until 3020, before being hired by AVIS Health as their head of the southern regional disease control unit. In 3022, upon the outbreak of the VIPER epidemic in Wiltshire, Daines became in charge of the development and roll out of the AVIS-Pembroke vaccine, which was successfully deployed over 20 million doses across the Doggerlands in 3022. During her work with the local governments in Wiltshire, Daines came to encounter "horrifically incompetent" management of the city government in the Arches (the epicenter of the outbreak).

Her frustration with the Labour-led government encouraged her to formally join the Stability Party of Wiltshire and run for the Mayoral seat in September 3022. She was successful, defeating incumbent Mayor Hugo Theroux and was elected Mayor of the Arches. Her time in the role was relatively brief, only serving a third of her nine-month term as, in December 3022, Daines was elected Leader of the Stability Party by a majority of the National Assembly caucus. Her campaign was based on many of the cost-saving measures that she had implemented in the Arches and promised to be a significant departure from the more progressive government that preceded her own.
