George Al Keeper

From TCH Archive

George Al Keeper (3013)

George Alan Keeper Saxon, or as he is more commonly known as George Al Keeper, was a Wiltshirian statesman and lawyer who served as the first Attorney General of Wiltshire. Keeper was a close friend of former Prime Minister Jaresh Inyo and served through all four of his ministries and the First Jellico Ministry. Keeper was infamous for his legal knowledge and is acknowledged with the name of the Justice Department building in Wiltshire, the Keeper Building.

Keeper was not a political man. He refused to join Jaresh Inyo's National Party and so was the only member of the caretaker cabinet not to be elected to the National Assembly. This caused an issue for Prime Minister Inyo when appointing members of the cabinet. Inyo wanted Keeper as Attorney General. However, the newly established convention was that all members of cabinet were to be a member of the National Assembly. This rule is still in effect today. However, Inyo made the decision to exclude the Attorney General from the rule, citing the need for an independent judicial and justice process within Wiltshire. Since, the Attorney General has sat in cabinet as an independent. This became known as the Keeper Rule, which has been maintained to ensure the integrity of Wiltshire's justice system.
