December 3023 Wiltshire general election

From TCH Archive

The December 3023 Wiltshire general election is scheduled to be held on 8 December 3023 to elect the first Assembly of the Erimo Republic. The election was called by Prime Minister Mitchell Crawley, who had led a caretaker government of national unity since the assassination of Social Democratic Prime Minister Ramsay Bowell. The election was fought with the backdrop of the ongoing Wiltshire Civil War, which had not concluded by election day.

Due to the ongoing conflict, the election was only able to take place in certain parts of the country. As a result, votes were cast from the cities of Lorikeet, Heuvelberg, Arches, Walkerton, and Minevgrad. Juneville, Newton, Rockfield, and Washington were all barred from participating due to the ongoing war.

Going into the election, the two major political parties (Stability and the newly rebranded Labour Party) decided to fight under a single banner. The aim of the "national unity ticket" was to ensure majority government following the election in order to ensure a stable continuation of the Erimo regime. The 'national unity' ticket was joined by the Free Voters of Wiltshire, the Republicans, and the Farmer-Green Alliance. The only major political party that stood in opposition to the 'national unity' ticket was the Liberals, who constituted the official opposition.
