Carthya, (Carthyan: Kart'iya) refers to the nation inhabited by the Carthyans. This includes the Eastern Carthyan Republic, the Autonomous Region of Carthyan Tevaja, and the Carthyan regions of Oscdea, Dalkai, and Haven.
Historically, the Carthyan Empire was a naval powerhouse in the Velkart and Tselia Seas and established many settler colonies around the shores and islands of the seas. Many of the settler populations remain in Northwestern Reicala, but many Carthyan populations in modern-day Oscdea and Haven have been assimilated into the larger population as a whole.
History
Origin and Expansion
The Carthyan Nation originated in the east on the Itretar Continent. Originally residing around the modern capital of Sukar, the Carthyan population soon expanded out in all directions. With the Oscdean Tundra to the north, Avenia to the east, and Haven to the South, the Carthyans developed a seafaring culture. Small settlements and colonies were established on the coasts alongside the Velkart and Tselia Seas, and the Amofara Islands.
A large Carthyan settlement was established in the temperate region of Northwest Reicala. Unlike the Northeast and modern Oscdea, this area was warmer and more suited for agriculture. These settlers are known as the West Carthyans, while the population back in the homeland were named the East Carthyans.
Personal Union with Avenia
Avenia, a nation closely related to the Carthyans, joined Carthya when Empress Toa IV of Carthya married King Alva I of Avenia. Their son, Alva II was both the Emperor of Carthya and King of Avenia simutaneously.
Tevekai Revolt
High taxes and resource exploitation from the East Carthyans based in Sukar led West Carthyans based around the city of Tevekai to revolt. Following a Civil War between the East and the West, the overstretched government in Sukar signed the Treaty of Amofara, splitting off the Western Carthyans into the Kingdom of Tevaja.
