CDR Union

From TCH Archive

The Conservative Democrats / Republican Union, abbreviated to CD/R Union, unofficially the Union parties or simply the Union, is a centre-right secular and conservative political alliance of two political parties in the Kingdom of Wiltshire: the Conservative Party and the Republicans.

While the two secular parties are commonly described as sister parties, they have a shared parliamentary group, the CD/R Caucus in the Wiltshire National Assembly. Broadly, the two parties share the same basic political aims, though are divided on their stances towards republicanism, specifically since the 3024 referendum on the establishment of a Wiltshirian monarchy. The schism between the two means that they officially remain completely independent with their own leadership and only few issue- or age-based joint organisations, which makes the alliance informal. However, in practice the committees of the parties harmonise their decisions with each other and the two parties run behind a common candidate for Prime Minister, and the leader of one party is usually invited to party conventions of the other party.

The two leaders of the Union are Conservative Democrat leader Owen Lassiter and Republican leader Halpert Lipsey. Following the formation of the first CD/R government after the 3024 general election, due to the near equal division between the two sister parties, a consensus candidate was put forward for Prime Minister and thus de facto leader of the Union: Joachim Anton "Jan" Rau.
