U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701) was a Constitution Class Starship operated by the Novanite Federation (FAF) which served as the flagship of the Novanite Starfleet. She is currently the largest ship currently in service and has gained the nickname 'The Big E'. The Enterprise was named after the 20th century American Aircraft Carrier, USS Enterprise (CV-6), which served with unparalleled distinction in the Terran Second World War (1939-1945). The Enterprise was scheduled and financed in secret, however was revealed to the world on April 24, 3019 when it was commissioned as the most powerful ship in the world.
She was destroyed in September 3019 following her self destruction during the September Mutiny.
Construction and commissioning
The Enterprise is a Constitution Class starship. The Constitution Class entered development on January 30, 3019 as apart of the Constitution Project to develop three world leading starships (the Enterprise being the first, with the U.S.S. Franklin A. Morris and the U.S.S. Yorktown being in development). She was laid down on February 10, 3019 at Utopia Planitia. She took a long time to be built due to her size. Furthermore, the Utopia Planitia Shipyard was not designed for a starship of the Enterprise's size, and so additional docks and facilities were to be built to facilitate the construction. The Enterprise was completed on April 20, 3019.
The decision to name the NCC-1701 'Enterprise' was that of newly elected President Franklin Morris. Morris noted at the commissioning that;
"The Oxford English Dictionary describes an enterprise as 'a project or undertaking, especially a bold or complex one'. The Constitution Project definitely fits into this category. So, it is only fit to name the first of this class, Enterprise."
