The First Labour Government of the Erimo Republic was formed by Jakob De Vries when he took over as Prime Minister from Mitchell Crawley. De Vries's nomination as Prime Minister by the National Assembly is widely considered to be the formal start of the Erimo Republic as a constitutional democracy, with its capital officially in Erimo, Lorikeet. De Vries had led the Labour Party to victory in the December 3023 general election. Despite not winning a majority, the support of a number of former-Stability Assembly Members helped solidify his position and the standing of his government.
De Vries appointed his cabinet shortly after his nomination, which included both Labour ministers and ministers from the Stability Party. De Vries commented on the bipartisan appointments, describing them as "taking full advantage of the talent in the Erimo government".
The first job of the Labour government was to establish a constitution, for which De Vries called a constitutional convention and named a Minister for the Constitution, in the form of Miriam Derby.
De Vries Cabinet
The De Vries cabinet was formed with the appointment of 14 ministers. It was notable for being the first government to disregard the informal rule that ministers must sit in the National Assembly. De Vries also made the vital decision to maintain the Keeper Rule by continuing Markus Horst as Attorney General, despite being the most conservative Attorney General in a decade.
