The 3025 Federation presidential election were the 63rd election of the Federation President, held on 15 May 3025. The Federation Council elected the Humanist nominee Curzon Sett to be the 40th President of the United Federation of Planets. The Federation Council shortly after approved the nomination for the new Commander-in-Chief of Starfleet. Incumbent President Ceris Olwen of the Federation Humanist Society did not run for re-election to a fourth term, leaving the office open for the first time since the 3012 election.
On 5 January 3025, the two parties' nominees were officially confirmed: Curzon Sett of the Humanist Society, and Tena Zeddec of the Logic Society. Sett defeated Zeddec thanks to the support of Ceris Olwen, although the race was significantly tighter than most expected.
Curzon Sett was sworn in as the 40th President of the United Federation of Planets on 1 September 3025.
Potential candidates
The Federation news media has speculated on a number of prominent members of the Federation Council who may seek election in 3025.
Federation Humanist Society (FHS)
Several candidates stood for the Humanist nomination for President. Eventually, Curzon Sett managed to win the contentious Andorian delegation and thus the nomination. The listed candidates were:
- Yves Solari, human representative of Huan IV
- Curzon Sett, Trill representative of Trill
- Sysis Th'shiakrak, Andorian representative of Cestus III
The debate around who the Humanist Society should nominate to succeed President Olwen is a contentious one, with three prominent candidates taking centre stage: Solari, Sett, and Th'shiakrak. Solari falls on the moderate humanist side of the party, while Sett and Th'shiakrak represent more extreme wings, calling for Federation expansionism and interdependence.
President Olwen has said he will not endorse a successor candidate, though there has been much speculation about his support for Yves Solari. Once Sett won the nomination on 5 January 3025, Olwen endorsed Sett.
Logic Society
The Logic Society, having been out of office since 3019, has rallied heavily around a unifying candidate in the hope of banding support on the Federation Council together. There is only one prominent Logician candidate: Tena Zeddec, a Cardassian representative from Cardiassia Prime. Zeddec has received endorsement from former Presidents Qasr, Rees, and Saavik, as well as from prominent logical thinkers on Vulcan, Efros, and Tellar. Her broad coalition of logical secularists are widely expected to front a strong performance in the election, especially given the expected reduced opposition given Olwen's retirement.
