Charles VI (Charles Roberto Augustus Senital Caliban; born 25 September 2930) was King of Rockfield from 2976 until his abdication in 2986 as the last Balancรญn monarch before the abolition of the monarchy.
Charles was born in 2930 as the son of Prince Philip Caesar, who would later become King Philip III, and Princess Lydia of Lancastria in the Iberian Palace during the reign of Queen Isabel. His early life was spent as second-in-line to the throne and was raised as a Prince of the people. He was educated at Pembroke University, Wiltshire and spent a large portion of his childhood shadowing the Government of Rockfield. In 2941, upon the death of Queen Isabel, Charles' father ascended to the throne as King Philip III, creating the Royal House of Caliban. The ascension of Philip III as King formalized the alliance between Rockfield and Lancastria, due to the marriage alliance in the form of the marriage between Philip III and Princess Lydia of Lancastria, who then became Queen Lydia.
During the thirty-four-year reign of his father, Charles was heir to the throne and continued his life as a notable public servant. His main objective, according to his auto-biography, was to ensure the continuation of the monarchy by ensuring the popularity of the future monarch. Charles married a commoner, the first time the heir to the throne has done so in over two-hundred years, in the form of Maria Senital. Charles was already middle-aged by the time his father died and he ascended to the throne as Charles VI.
Charles was coronated Charles VI on 6 August 2976, the final coronation of a Rockfield monarch, by Pontifex Konstantin VIII and reigned as King for ten years between 2976 and 2986. Towards the end of his reign, the biggest political question facing the country was whether or not to join the United Federation of Planets, which was reformed in 2985. The reformation of the Federation was seen as a big political opportunity for Rockfield, however, the republican nature of the Federation government meant that any membership would come at the cost of the Monarchy. Charles argued that the Monarchy was vital to the culture of Rockfield. However, the Cortes Generales voted to join the Federation on 1 February 2986 with a resolution calling for the abolition of the monarchy. While still a popular institution, Charles attempted to convince the country to support his continuation as King. However, on 4 February, Charles was convinced to abdicate and the monarchy was abolished.
Since abolition, Rockfield gained independence from the Federation and became a republic. Charles has continued to live in Rockfield since, as a wealthy private citizen. In February 3021, the government of Rockfield announced a referendum on the restoration of the monarchy. If passed, the government has confirmed that Charles will be invited to resume his position as King, the first time this has ever happened in Rockfield history.
