Dependency of Senones
Overview
Senones is a Dependency of the Federal Republic of Paxem. It is located in the Northeast of Doggerlands, just South of Lancastria's Aleksandra and the Chisel Enterprises Fayyaad Oil Refinery. The city is densely forested and relies heavily on its lumber industry and regional airport, and does regular commerce with its neighbors Lancastria, Atlas, and fellow dependencies in Paxem.
History
Originally known as Gorath, the province was first established as a territory of the Almere Socialist Republic (ASR) in 3016. Unlike many of its southern counterparts, Gorath remained relatively unaffected by the outbreak of the August and October Conflicts which decimated the ASR armed forces and saw land from other ASR territories ceded to foreign neighbors. Following the Corporate Depression period of 3017 the Eastern Federal Republic (EFR) rose to succeed ASR as a nation, and Gorath was transferred from a Northern Territory to a Federal Subject (FS) of the EFR January 3rd, 3019.
The EFR was drawn into and remained locked in conflict with the Neu Corporate Republik (NCR) starting on January 19th 3020. Just one day later, NCR troops broke through EFR defenses and the territory surrendered and was formally annexed. Gorath was renamed by the Republik Federal Government to Senones, where it became a Prefecture of the Northeastern Commonwealth.
Following a massive war between the NCR and International Defense Organization (IDO) the NCR collapsed on July 31, 3021, and was succeeded by the Republic of Paxem, moving the capitol to a newly built city in the East, Cyrene. Many former prefectures took the opportunity to leave the nation peacefully, Senones however remains in the Republic of Paxem today where it is formally the Dependency of Senones, and governed by the Paxem Federal Government under the Paxemese Constitution.
Culture
Senones is a melting pot of demographics due to its association with the ASR, EFR, NCR, and Paxem. Each successive nation brought new culture and people to the territory for business, and even militaristic control. Dutch and English from the EFR, German from the NCR, as well as Canadians and Eastern-European ethnicities from Lancastria. Senones is often favored for its small-town atmosphere and suburban lifestyle. Residents often own their own homes in Senones, and are privy to several outdoor recreation options owing to Senones large forest reserves.
On religion, Senones has adopted the Pontifical Church as a primary spiritual provider, and even educational and medical provider. The parish of St. Francis has, through its order of Franciscan priests, placed itself at the heart of the community's needs. St. Francis operates St. Francis Medical Center, and St. Francis K-12 School. The Church saw a rise in popularity in Senones following the NCR's adoption of the Church after the NCR-Ecclesian conflict, where Ecclesia and Senones were briefly in the Northeastern Commonwealth of the NCR together. Pontifical State University has also placed a payment for the construction of an observatory campus in the Eastern mountains of Senones.
Industry
As previously stated, Senones relies heavily on its lumber industry. Situated in an unusually forested part of the Doggerlands, the municipal government forcefully regulates logging within the territory to maintain a balanced forest ecosystem. Serving as its main export, Senones logging companies are often in direct competition with Lancastrian lumber, vying to earn the business of construction and furnishing companies.
The Senones Regional Airport is a staple of the city, providing a market for private and small commercial planes which lack terminals or hangar space at the nearby larger Lancastrian International Airport. The airport is complemented by the NCRR train station to the south which connects the city to the rest of the country and several international partners.
Also important to the city is Archotech Industries and Research, which boasts a large campus North of the airport. The company is the second largest employer in the city following the Paxemese government itself.
Senones is generally favorable for small business, of which many can be found along Swift Road. There have been rumors of incorporating the megacorporation Chisel Enterprises' Fayyaad Refinery into the city, but these are unfounded.
