Pembroke University

From TCH Archive

The University of Pembroke is a private research University in Newton, Wiltshire. Named after its founding benefactor, Peter A. Pembroke, Pembroke is widely considered to be the most prestigious university in Doggerland and amongst the most in the world. The University was established in 2641 and has continued since. Established by the decree of King Philip I of the Rock, the University acted under the Kingdom for the first two-hundred years of its existence, gaining statutory independence in the 2850s. Prior to Wiltshirian unification, the University was unaffiliated with any state. Before the Federation migration to the Wiltshire plains, Pembroke was a rural community. Many considered the isolation to be an integral part of serious academia.

In 3010, the University was joined with Daystrom Institute into the University of Wiltshire under directive from the Ministry of Education, ending the University's non-affiliation from any sovereign states. However, Pembroke continues to maintain independence over all matters related to the University itself. Admission rates to Pembroke are among the most competitive in the world, with less than 1% of applications being successful. As of 3021, Pembroke enrolled 464 undergraduate students and 230 postgraduates.

Many of Pembroke's alumni have gone onto become world leading academics and leaders. Notably, Pembroke was the primary education centre to 10 Wiltshire Prime Ministers.

Following the NCR/IDO war, the University found itself at the centre of the Newton-front of the war and suffered significant damages. The University was forced to close in March 3021, the first time that in-person teaching was suspended in the University in almost 380 years. In 3022, teaching was announced to be returning, along with a significant increase in the numbers of undergraduate students.

Structure

The central University administration is run by the Chancellor, elected by University members holding a Masters Degree and above. The University is a collegiate university, being comprised of six colleges (two new colleges as of 3022):
