The Congress for a New Social Contract was a political conference and gathering, organised by David-Eli Attlee in the aftermath of the 3024 Wiltshire general election and the foundation of the political party Renaissance. Officially a successor to the Socialist Party, Renaissance was founded as a broad-church party to support the Attlee government's policies surrounding the new social contract. The party is broadly seen as centre to centre-left but has factions that range from left-wing to centre-right.
Following its formation, Renaissance received a majority of the Socialist Assembly caucus. The non-Renaissance Socialists grouped together to become the Resistance Socialists to oppose the government on the basis of being too friendly towards corporations. Renaissance also received Assemblymen from the Ecologists & Greens and Kaitiaki Ropu.
The Congress was called by Attlee to decide the party's organisational structure, as well as elect party leadership.
Leadership
The leader of Renaissance is Prime Minister David-Eli Attlee, who was elected party Chairman during the First Congress for a New Social Contract. The deputy leadership is held by Keomi Ono, the Federal Minister for the Family, Health, and Social Affairs.
