The Chancellorship of Eric Johnson Sr. was the first tenure of any person in the office of Chancellor of the Exchequer and was the first following the unification of the Wiltshirian settlements. Johnson served as Chancellor during the first two governments of Jaresh Inyo while under the banner of the National Coalition Party. Johnson became known as "the Chancellor", and is often credited with the naming of the position.
Johnson's Chancellery was created to establish economic stability in Wiltshire. Intended as something of a "second Prime Minister", the Chancellery was intended as a check on the authority of the Prime Minister. The position was originally intended to be appointed by the Governor-General, however, this quickly changed to becoming an appointed position by the Prime Minister to sit in cabinet, hence why Johnson was the only Chancellor to ever be appointed by a Governor-General.
During Johnson's Chancellery, the greatest economic agenda item was the formation of a Wiltshirian common economy and the establishment of trading with other nations. Johnson signed Wiltshire's first free trade agreement in 3009 with Bonitana and would continue to advocate for economic reform throughout the remainder of his time as Chancellor.
Johnson's Chancellery ended in January 3010 when Thomas Shore's Socialist Party was elected to government and Johnson was replaced by Patrick Rivers. Johnson continued to serve as Jaresh Inyo's primary economic advisor, in opposition, until his death in May 3010.
