Carthyan Peoples are peoples who originated from northern Reicala and southern Alphinia on Taurus. They originated from Reicalan Peoples on the Bullseyan Ethnolinguistic Branch who diverged into Old Carthyans and Dalkaisk peoples. Carthyans are closely related to Avenian peoples, who speak a closely related language. They inhabited the Mountains and valleys of their respective regions.
Carthyan is the second most common ethnic group in Dalkai, where it makes up 21.8% of the Dalkaisk population.
North Carthyans
North Carthyans are a group of Carthyan peoples who lived under the Oscdean States. Compared to the South Carthyans, North Carthyans are more affluent and have a greater sense of freedom, due to the higher GDP per capita and absence of SMG occupation. North Carthyans typically monolingually spoke the Carthyan language, with a minority being bilingual in Catain, and an even smaller minority speaking Dalkaisk. The North Carthyan variety of the language also features more words of Carthyan origin, while South Carthyan features a large amount of Dalkaisk loanwords
South Carthyans
South Carthyans generally are less affluent and lived under larger turmoil than their Northern counterparts. Southern populations were occupied by SMG under the SMG control of Reicala. Thus, they generally lived in less urban and more rugged conditions, enjoying less freedom and less access to resources due to the Gerbian segregationist system of Geyley. Carthyans took a large part in the Dalkaisk Revolution and the government structure of Dalkai post-revolution. South Carthyans also generally speak Carthyan and Dalkaisk bilingually, and may be considered by some to be more culturally mixed with Dalkaisk culture than North Carthyans are with Oscdean culture.
