The Cyrene-Class Battlecruiser is a large Paxemese airship serving in the Paxemese Navy.
Originally a class of airship constructed to match their Oscdean equivalents in the C.E.-Oscdean war, the Cyrene Class (formerly known as the Albatross-class Kampf-Zeppelinkruiser) is a capitol ship primarily designed for capitol ship combat, surface bombardment, and large scale ground assault operations.
History
The Albatross-class was designed in early 3019 by Chisel Dynamics, the research and design subsidiary of Chisel Enterprises. Work began on August of 3019, twelve ships were completed by the end of 3019, with two being completed in January 3020. These ships are the Nachtfalter, Greta, Wespe, Libelle, Jäger, Titan, Stand and Deliver, Forthright, Anna, Klause, Geörg, Fayette, Leö and Benét-Mercié. Six more Albatross-Class ships were completed by the end of August 3020.
The Albatross-class served extensively in the Great Corporate War, with vessels of the class participating in numerous orbital engagements, the invasion of Ecclesia, the (unsuccessful) invasion of Ecclesia, and the glassing of Bonitaña, along with countless other conflicts.
Following the war, ten ships remained in varying levels of damage. Four were scrapped as part of the Paxemese military reduction act, with two being sold to serve as converted cargo ships. The four remaining ships underwent repairs, were retrofitted, and returned to military service in April of 3022. They were renamed as the "Cyrene-class Battlecruiser" as a part of Paxem's general military reclassification initiative.
Weapon Systems
The Cyrene-Classes weapons were originally designed for surface bombardment and anti-ship capabilities. The main 2.5m guns are the largest Terran-made caliber of gun currently in service, with the vessel equipped with six guns in three ventral turrets, as well as six more in six side-mounted turrets. The ship also has dozens of other cannons, varying from smaller auto-cannons to large anti-ship cannons. These guns were retained by the Paxemese navy following the retrofit, making the vessel one of the only ships in the Paxemese Navy to use large-caliber anti-capitol ship guns as one of its main offensive armaments.
Following the 3022 retrofit by the Paxemese navy, the two ventral bomb bays on the underside of the craft and the original missile silos on top were replaced by a total of thirty silos for ASsM-15 "Archangel II" anti-ship missiles. The underside-mounted canister launchers on the original craft, originally meant for robot deployment, were replaced by similarly sized silos for ASsm-10 "Basalt" anti-ship or AAM-500 anti-aircraft missiles.
Ten "Alexiares" CIWS guns were added to the ship following the 3022 retrofit after it was determined that the vessel was particularly susceptible to aircraft.
One Type-8 plasma lance was added to all existing vessels in the late Great Corporate War by the NCR. This was retained in the Paxemese retrofit, and two Type-9 plasma lances were added for increased surface threat elimination capabilities.
Troop/Aircraft Compliment
Meant to also serve as a platform for ground assault, the Cyrene-Class holds space for two thousand marines and two hundred armored and unarmored vehicles. These can be deployed by two ramps mounted on the main body of the craft, just beside the substructure.
