Emiliano Matias Alejandro (born 13 November 2953) is a Balancín politician and academic who is El Presidente-Electo after having won the 3020 Rockfield Presidential Election and will assume office as the 5th El Presidente on 16 August 3020. Alejandro took over as General Secretary of the Partido Socialista (PS) in early July 3020, unseating incumbent El Presidente Joseph Laos.
Prior to his election, Alejandro served as the Minister to Wiltshire, becoming one of the most senior foreign policy ministers in the governments of Ramón Gerard Antonio Estévez and Laos. Alejandro was able to win the position of General Secretary due to his support from the anti-tarkinist factions within PS.
Early life and education
Alejandro was born to Ricard Alejandro and Lucia Alejandro in 2953. Ricard and Lucia both followers of the Pontifical denomination of the catholic religion. Being raised in an extremely traditional household likely had a significant impact on Alejandro's worldview and many link his more moderate-socialism to his traditional childhood.
He left home at 17 to join the North American Naval Academy in Virginia, graduating and becoming a midshipman. Eventually, in 2984, Alejandro was promoted to First Sea Commander of the Federation Naval Service on Terra. He continued in post until 2992 when he retired from the Navy and returned to education.
During his childhood, his only education (besides that of the Naval Academy) was heavily religious based. When he started his degree in political science and public administration in 2993, he had initially wanted to study Theology. However, with the outbreak of the Federation/C.E. war in late 2993, Theology was cut as a standard course at most Terran Federation universities. This was likely due to the total war policy of the Federation government, and so Alejandro switched to political science and public administration.
He graduated in 2997 with a Second Class degree in Political Science and Public Administration, receiving an average grade and finishing at the middle of his class. While he was not particularly intelligent (as compared to his peers), he was an extremely talented public speaker and often gave sermons at the local Pontifex Church and speeches at the Student Union. Alejandro himself describes his time in university as the eye-opening experience that "changed my life".
Following the defeat of the Federation during the war, Alejandro joined one of the migration groups (mostly consisting of Latino and Mexican, as well as Bonitanan, refugees) which eventually settled in Rockfield.
Naval career
Rockfield was the only two of the Wiltshirian settlements to be relatively coastal (along with Newton) and as such, established its own coast guard. During the early settlement period, there was serious concern that Chisel Enterprises would return to attack, in an attempt to wipe out the tarkinistic or pro-federation sentiment in Doggerland. During the settlement period, and into the unification talks with Juneville and Walkerton, Alejandro served as the Commanding Officer (CO) of the largest Balancín vessel, the Asturias and as Chief of Staff of the Coast Guard.
