In the case of living organisms, body fluids will evaporate, and the body will explode with its red blood cells scattering outwards like a crimson flower blooming in the spring. In other words, this is an instant-kill ability.
Since nearly all machines have a fluid of some kind, such as lubricants, coolants, hydraulic or battery fluids or liquid fuel, they will instantly be destroyed by explosion or simply stop working. This is the perfect weapon for both anti-personnel and anti-armor combat.
Statura's use of Rupture against the Kroot and causing the blood of the enemy to splatter on her body gave her the nickname the "Crimson Queen". It's said that jumping into a fight in the face of Claire Statura's Rupture is the same as having a death wish.
