His Majesty's Most Valiant Guard, more commonly known as the King's Guard, is a sworn brotherhood with the expressed duty of the protection of the King of the United Kingdom and his family. Formed in 2665 by King Charles I folowing an uncovered assassination plot was narrowly foiled, the King's Guard is comprised of five knights from across the United Kingdom. Traditionally the "most elite knights of the Kingdom", the King's Guard has moderinzed into a fully functioning security force of approximately 200 strong. While the King's Guard has grown in number, the core group of Knights remain for ceremonial and command purposes.

The Knights of the King's Guard are appointed by the King, each typically commanding a core division of the service. The group, led by the Lord Commander, oversees the personal protection of the King and the management of the force, while other designated members are tasked with the protection of the Queen, and other members of the Royal Family. While the days of lifelong service has long passed (with the practice being formally abolished following the restoration of the monarchy in 3021), former members of the King's Guard are automatically granted admission into the Order of the Shield.

The Lord Commander of the King's Guard is the highest ranking security official within the King's personal household. Beyond their formal responsibilities with respect to the King's Guard itself, the Lord Commander is also typically a trusted security advisor to the King and sits on the King's Council.
