Nightlands

The Nightlands is an isolationalistic state ruled by former humans and aliens now transformed into Nightlings. The entire state is ruled by an authoritarian and harsh government. Anyone who commits a crime, whether minor or major, is subject to unimaginable horrifying torture that works well enough to put them in line. Its inhabitants are mostly human and sometimes alien slaves, with the Nightlings at any time may transform a large portion into more of their kind through a special ritual. The majority of the population (99%) are all human or alien slaves, most of which were born in the state and will spend their entire miserable lives being used for forceful breeding and working in the mines and factories. But those that are lucky will be recruited into the military, where their sense of fear and pain will be removed.

A common ideology is held among the slightly more freer Nightling population. They believe that efficiency and results should be put above righteousness and emotion. When they were turned into Nightlings they had not only shed their flesh but also their human morality, giving them an almost deranged obsession to perfection.

History

Nightlands

The Nightlings did not exist before. They are an artificial race created by a military corporation obsessed with creating superhumans. They have achieved what they wanted, creating an enhancing liquid they called Darkwater, as it can only be created in the absence of electromagnetic radiation.

The first Nightling had gone insane, breaking out of its bindings and converting several researchers into more of its kind. Though the Nightlings died one by one due to their exposure to light and other electromagnetic radiation, their assimilation rate was fast enough for them to get enough numbers and hide deep underground by creating tunnels.

Eventually, the Nightlings realize that their saliva can be used as a way to block out electromagnetic radiation and by covering themselves in it they can greatly lessen the effect of it on their bodies.

Surface Attack

The corporation had sent many military forces to clear out the Nightlings deep underground, but the Nightlings were able to persevere. Even though they had lost most of their population, through months long of planning they were able to strike back against the corporation and take control of the facility, where they held their ground against any force that seeks to take away their independence.

Aftermath

The Nightlings rather than just immediately converting the captured employees, turned them into breeding slaves and grew the non-nightling population. As time went on the Nightlings expanded their territory, and sent the children to work in mines, where they will bring stone which the Nightlings will convert into Nightstone and use for the construction of their structures and vehicles.

Eventually the state developed to have a working economy. Thousands of slaves are born and work oppressed. The Nightlings invented new machines and ways to utilize Nightwater in the current technology they have access to.

Nightling Society

Darkwater will be injected into the bloodstream while the victim is drained of blood, and eventually their entire bodies and flesh will be corrupted by the fluid, turning them into Nightlings. They will spend 1-2 weeks in an unstable state where they will attack anything moving that is not of their kind.

The Nightlings stay deep underground, and avoid any sources of electromagnetic radiation. Even going so far to create special suits block it off completely. Though their Darkwater infected walls work well enough to do the job.

Though electromagnetic radiation of any sort does not actually harm them, it does prevent cell production, perhaps due to the influence of Darkwater in their entire biological structure. Though despite this major disadvantage, the Nightlings are much more stronger and faster than ordinary humans, and their flesh is comparable to even power armor. They have the ability to produce more Darkwater from their saliva. Around half of all Nightlings are used as Darkwater producing cattle slaves where they are put into receiver machines and have their entire minds wiped permanently.

The Nightlings are obsessed with the development of their nation, though they are not interested in any further surface expansion, and would rather conquer the underground instead, where they are in most comfort.
