Labour Party Leader Rita Smith formed the Smith Ministry on April 12, 3019 when she was appointed the 2nd Provincial Director of Wiltshire following her victory in the April 3019 Wiltshire Legislative Elections. This was the first ever ministry not formed from one of the two traditional main parties (Conservative Party (Wiltshire) and the Socialist Party).
History and Formation
The Labour Party was formed after the Socialists' defeat in the January 3019 Wiltshire General Election. The Socialist Leader Rita Smith was forced out of the leadership and so decided to form a new political party with 4 other AMs. This party became the unofficial opposition as Smith and Hill's debates (and later Smith and Samantha Schrӧder's) were well known throughout Wiltshire.
When Samantha Schrӧder became Prime Minster (and later Director) she was plagued with scandal. She was reported to have been involved in a sex scandal and her popularity went to an all time low. In addition to this, Samantha Schrӧder's government was the one that admitted Wiltshire into the Novanite Federation, losing Wiltshire's independence (and her even more popularity). The Freedom Caucus broke away from the Conservative's majority government and then, following the April 3019 Wiltshire Legislative Elections, Smith was able to win the most seats. She was short of a majority, however, but easily formed a coalition with the Socialist Party (who were now in third place).
Smith became the 2nd Provincial Director on April 12 and would serve in government until the June elections.
Cabinet
As a result of the Labour/Socialist coalition, members of the cabinet were of these two parties (more to Labour due to their higher status).
