The North or 'The Kingdom of the North' is the northern most region of the continent of Estyn. The North is currently ruled by Warden Stanley Clarke, under the sovereignty of King Edgar I of Estyn. The Capital of the North is Winterfell, which was built an estimated 3,900 years ago by the founder of House Clarke.

Carolingian Origins

The ruling House, House Clarke, has ruled the North, almost continuously, for almost 4,000 years. House Clarke founded by Sid Clarke following the Germanic migration into the continent from mainland Europe. The Germanic migration brought the first type of peoples to Estyn; the Carolingians. The Carolingians ruled most of the continent throughout much of the first millennium and into the second. However, at the dawn of the second millennium, the migration of the Esters began, beginning a war for control of the continent.

The Esters were far more advanced than the remaining Carolingians. The Esters first founded Houses such as Lannister, Greyjoy and Arynn, the war was over as every Carolingians House was destroyed; except House Clarke. House Clarke continued to rule the North following a peace made between the two peoples. The south would be controlled by the Esters, and the North (the weaker and poorer territory) would be controlled by the Carolingians. Throughout the next thousand years, the difference between the two peoples became unknowing. Even going as far as Lord Hector Clarke (King of Winter) calling himself the first Ester King of the whole North in 1013 (Before Founding).

Kings of Winter

The first King of Winter was Sid Clarke. The years of his reign are disputed, with some saying 4000 years ago, and others saying closer to 3000 years ago. However, this existence is undisputed. His House would rule as Kings of Winter until Arthur's Conquest in 102 AC. House Clarke continued to rule the North afterwards, however now only as Wardens.

Notable Kings of Winter include;

  • King Sidney I
  • King Sidney IX
  • King Curd III (The Strong)
  • King Hector II (The Ester)
  • King Mance XIV
  • King Sidney XX
  • King Eddard I
  • King Eddard II
  • King Torren II
  • King Mance XV
  • King Torren III
  • King Torren IV (The King who Knelt)

Since Arthur's Conquest

Since Arthur's Conquest, the Lord of Winterfell has been the Warden of the North, with the exception of in 1190-1204 when House Golding ruled the North until the Clarke restoration.
