The Balancín King's Guard, formally His Majesty's Most Valiant King's Guard, is a sworn brotherhood formed to protect the King of the Rock. Originally formed by King Charles I, the Old King, following a suspected plot for his murder in 2665. The King's Guard is, officially, comprised of five knights from the Kingdom. Traditionally the "most elite knights in the Kingdom", the King's Guard now operates a security force of 200 personnel strong tasked with the general security of the Iberian Palace, St. Alfonso's Basilica and the general welfare of the Royal Family.
During the interregnum, the King's Guard was formally disbanded. However, it continued to operate as the security force for government buildings. In 3021, when Charles VI formally re-ascended to the throne, he issued a decree for the re-establishment of the King's Guard.
The Lord Commander of the King's Guard is the highest ranking security official in the Kingdom of the Rock. Formally tasked with the management and command of the King's Guard service itself, the Lord Commander has become, in modern times, a general security advisor to the reigning monarch.
