El Presidente de la Roca (English: The President of the Rock) is the executive head of government of Rockfield. El Presidente directs the executive branch of the Balancín government. The role of El Presidente is traditionally held simultaneously with the role of General Secretary of the Partido Socialista (PS), the dominant ruling party in Rockfield.
The presidency was officially regarded as an institution of the state and the incumbent El Presidente is the most senior member, both politically and ceremonially, of the country. However, in 3021 with the restoration of the monarchy, this position was taken up by the monarch, leaving the El Presidente the political leader of the country. Between 3009 and 3020, El Presidente was elected by a direct popular vote, with the candidate of PS being the incumbent General Secretary. This has resulted in every El Presidente being from PS. Since 3021, El Presidente has been appointed by the reigning monarch with the consent of the Cortes Generales.
The first elected El Presidente was Palos De Santa, who became El Presidente of the settlement in 3005 and formally elected to the position of El Presidente of the republic in 3009. The incumbent El Presidente is Emiliano Matias Alejandro, who was elected in 3020.
Since the death of Palos De Santa in 3019, there is only one living former El Presidente (David Winston). However, on 16 August 3020, incumbent Joseph Laos will become the second.
