Rockfield, officially the Socialist People's Republic of the Rock (Bonitañan Spanish: República Popular Socialista de la Roca) is a small sovereign state in eastern Doggerland. It lies in the narrow region between Newton, Wiltshire and South Eastern Bonitana. Due to its geographical proximity to Bonitana, Bonitañan Spanish is the most widely spoken language in the country, with English as another primary language. The country was established in 3005 as the formation of the Rockfield settlement, the most northern of the Federation refugee settlements.

The small country has historically been in talks with, at different times, Wiltshire, the United Cities of Greater Bonitana, the Almere Socialist Republic, the Eastern Federal Republic, the Novanite Federation and the New Corporate Republic to join these respective countries. However, none of them have ever materialized and Rockfield has remained an independent country.

Unlike most of the countries of Doggerland, Rockfield has never joined international organizations such as S.A.T.O, International Defense Organization or DUOD. However, does play a role in international diplomacy, previously serving on the DefCon Council and as host of the G20 Conference in 3020.

Etymology

The term "Rockfield" was not officially coined until 3009. The original settlement took the name of the "Settlement of the Rock", or by the Bonitañan Spanish name, Balancía. When the settlement declared itself independent of Wiltshire in 3009, it chose the name "The Republic of the Rock", changing to "The Socialist People's Republic of the Rock" following an encuesta (referendum) the same year.

With the adaptation of this official name, the demonym became "Rocan". However, most still identify themselves as "Balancín", and Balancía is still a popularly used term for the country domestically.

Government and politics

The government of Rockfield is closely linked with the ruling Partido Socialista (Socialist Party or PS). Given the great success of PS in Rockfield's elections, it is the only major political party in the country and controls a super-majority of the seats in the Balancín Cortes Generales. Further more, every El Presidente de la Roca has been from PS. The government of Rockfield is divided into four main sections;

Cortes Generales

The Cortes Generales is the legislature of Rockfield and is made up of elected Deputies from the 97 Departments of Rockfield. At each Cortes Generales election, candidates must win majority support in their respective departments to win victory. In cases where candidates do not win majority support, runoff elections are held two-weeks later in their departments between the top-two candidates (this has only ever occurred three times in history). The Cortes Generales has total legislative control in Rockfield. See below a graphical summary of the Cortes Generales.
