Template:TCH Nation infoboxThe Northern Novanite Federation, alternatively named the "Northern Federation" or simply "NNF" is a federal parliamentary republic located in the northeastern region of the Doggerlands. It lies directly south of Barkshire and Byfair, and north of Sunnyvale.
Its' formation was mainly spurred by the shared interests of the founder states, Scion and Novenae. Both societies shared values such as neutrality and free trade, and wished to protect these interests through the federation.
While the NNF is the smallest and least-populated federal republic in the Doggerland, it ranks well in terms of human development. The region of Novenae tends to fall behind in terms of safety and security compared to its sister region Scion, mostly due to the Novenae Civil War.
In 3019, The Federal Republic of Wiltshire voted to join the NNF in a referendum to become the third member nation.
History
Talks of a Federation had been started long before the nation would come to fruition, being mentioned briefly in diplomatic talks between the President of Scion and the Prime Minister of Novenae.
Government & Politics
The NNF is a federal republic, divided into 'cantons'. The structure and functions of the federal government is defined by their constitution, the supreme legal document of the federation.
The federal government is divided into 3 branches:
- Legislative: The unicameral Supreme Council where 6 members are sent by each canton to represent them at the federal level. The SC has the power of the purse, can pass federal legislation, has impeachment powers, and declares war.
- Executive: Instead of a chief executive, the heads of state of each canton form their own committee which exercises executive power collectively.
- Judicial: The Supreme Court interprets the laws set down by the High Council and also hears cases of national importance, such as the impeachment of an executive official or conflicts between cantons.
Cantons have their own devolved political systems, and hold considerable autonomy in local matters.
