The Democratic Party of the United Federation of Planets was one of the two major political parties that operated within the Federation throughout its existence between 2161 and 2340 and later between 2985 and 2998. The Democratic Party during the first Federation rule was first established by President Thomas Eddie who was expelled from the founding Federalist Party the previous year. Eddie was elected President behind the Democratic Party, which would go onto rule the Federation for x out of its 179 years.

The party during the Federation's second tenure was founded by President Grand Tarkin. Tarkin had been a Democratic President during the first Federation, however, between his death and rebirth, the Democratic Party had been dissolved. When Tarkin was elected President in 2988, he re-founded the Democratic Party under the ideals of Tarkinism and Liberalism.
