Overview

Griffith is a city in the north-east region of the Zaandam region. The city contains dozens of historical Queen-Anne buildings and hosts many cultural events. It is surrounded by the Zaandam National Forest and lies next to the Eastern Sea.

History

The area surrounding Griffith is composed of sprawling brackish marshes which are unique to the Zaandam region, swamps and forests composed of pine and spruce. The earliest recorded humans to have visited and established a colony in Griffith were the Kamarils, a tribe originating in the Balkans believed to have traveled shortly after the Doggerlands became raised out of the sea. The Kamarils remained in the region relying on eels and shellfish though mostly through cultivating Griffith's peculiar Haemeria Breveaculeatua, colloquially known as hemogen plants, a flowering plant that was later found to include high levels of hemoglobin.

Modern Griffith was eventually established in 2939 by a group of colonizers originating from Northern California, United States. The city was incorporated in 2946.

As of 3025, the city is under Paxemese rule though the residents wish to stay neutral and generally oppose the regime.

Culture

Residents of Griffith are regarded as eccentric individuals engaging in various forms of art and performance. The city is generally praised for its preserved historical buildings, general small-town atmosphere and lively people, though others regard the city as an unsettling ghost town. Griffith offers a vast amount of cultural activities and events such as flea markets, music concerts, operas and traditional Griffith celebrations.

The most well-known of these celebrations is the Griffith De-staking Day - celebrating the macabre, supernatural and the Kamaril tribe during which you can observe the nonubiquitous hemogen plant being ceremonially consumed. While researchers conclude the plant likely evolved or mutated from a species of soy, locals still believe that the Kamarils cultivated these plants to increase their "vampiric powers".

The Kamaril Legend

Legends and rumours about the Kamarils talk of the tribe possessing certain supernatural abilities or specifically them being of vampiric nature. Legend has it, that they were sired by an ancient generation of vampires from whom they gained vampiric abilities. The Kamarils, needing an ample supply of blood therefore relied on hemogen plants in order to sustain themselves. It is said that later generations of the Kamarils roamed the Doggerlands for centuries, siring more inhabitants of the landmass, however only a few of them supposedly remain today. Multiple residents claim that vampires are a part of Griffith society - in fact the residents are supposedly acquainted with them and offer Griffith as a haven for supernaturals to hibernate in.

There is talk of an ancient Kamaril tomb containing the leader of the Kamarils being located somewhere in Griffith. There is debate between the Griffithians of this supposed tomb and the risk of its opening. Many oppose the opening of such tomb as it could unleash a mass of evil and death, yet others propose the opening of the tomb in favor of seeking ancient wisdom and spirituality. Many archaeological excavations have been performed around Griffith, with one man, convinced his house was atop this burial place, having his house lifted from its foundations, however no conclusive results of such tomb existing have surfaced.
