Overview

Chisel Enterprises is a prominent Megacorporation on the Doggerland bank specializing in a variety of services, including military contracting, private security, aeronautics, entertainment, news, energy, and agriculture. It is the largest Megacorporation in Paxem.

Founding

Chisel Enterprises can easily be called the oldest modern corporation due to its roots as the Standard Oil company, a large oil company founded in the second half of the 19th century. Through a series of renamings and power changes, it returned as a prominent global corporation in the late 20th century, under the name Chisel Industries. This corporation primarily sold military technology to the now-defunct world governments of that day, arming many different sides of the multiple wars going on at the time. It was a major player in selling massive amounts of arms to the Chinese and United States, prompting the fall of Russia in 2050. The company only grew in power after this, and the Nevada Documents heavily imply that this corporation came into contact with the Chisan race sometime around 2235. This resulted in the research and development of many of this extraterrestrial technology, much of which fell into the hands of the later Chisel Enterprises.

The Great Disaster and Early History

After the Great Cataclysm of 2300, Chisel Industries quickly disappeared and was not heard from again for centuries. It is unknown what happened to the Megacorporation during this time, however, it is probable that the administration retreated into the massive Arichmedes II superweapon, a heavily fortified facility created in response to the impending meteor strike in the Great Disaster. Evidently they survived, as the corporation suddenly resurfaced more than a half-millenia later, under the new name of Chisel Enterprises. This MegaCorporation, under the leadership of Chisel Amadeus Steiner (who was named after the corporation he was born to lead) quickly grew, selling designs unlike any other such as the Buzzard Autonomous Fighter drone (probably based off of Chisan technology). This quick rise to dominance prompted the sudden arrival of two alien species to Earth: The Slivans and Lesterians. Both humanoid species posed a great threat to Earth until they were ultimately and utterly eradicated by the Arichimedes II Superweapon.

The New Golden Age

Under the guidance of a new C.E.O., Daniel Thorton Morsehead, Chisel Enterprises began a massive resurgence from the depression in the summer of 3018. Moving away from their warlike past, The Company, as it was called, began to market new projects, undertake new, advanced facility projects, and perhaps most importantly, advance its now-smaller military with heavily advanced tech stolen from several smaller corps during the Months immediately following the Corporate Recession. Indeed, C.E. quickly rose to become one of the most advanced corporations on the Doggerlands bank, with their entire military apparatus being powered by atomic energy as of December of 3018.

This technological advancement also came with a new and distinct mindset. known as Corporatism. Much like patriotism or nationalism, this fervent love for The Company was felt by many employees, and was certainly capitalized on by intra-company propaganda and posters. Warnings against "The dangers of governmental control", and of the virtues of Anarcho-Capitalism were heavily present among the atmosphere of The Company during this time. The entire company became much less like the governmental body it had been during the United Territories years, and moreso of an actual corporation in an Anarcho-Capitalist area, showing little regard for human rights or ethics in its ever-increasing bid to make more money.

The Neu Corporate Republik

The Morsehead period ended with his murder in 3019. Originally, the government of Scion was blamed for the killings, but information later emerged that Florian Steinbauer was actually responsible in a bid to regain power over the company. This caused the first waves of anti-Tauren sentiment across several cities, though incidents were isolated and limited.

Shortly after Steinbauer assumed the position of CEO, the Novanite government defaulted on debt owed for the purchase of weapons made during the Morsehead time. Standard practice at the time was to forcibly seize debts owed due to the lack of an overarching government or regulatory agency, so Chisel Enterprises conducted an invasion of Novenæ using their new battleship, the Ausmerzer. This invasion coincidentally came at the same time as a separate Oscdean invasion of the city, and the Ausmerzer defeated the Oscdean fleet over Novenæ, destroying over ten Oscdean craft in the conflict. Shortly after, Chisel Enterprises annexed the city and announced the formation of the Neu Corporate Republik, a government led by Chisel Enterprises.

No longer will they believe they have a voice through Parliament when they really have none, and be tricked by the lies of the "democratic" political system. During the period of the NCR, Chisel Enterprises transformed from being a publicly-traded sale-oriented corporation to a Corpo-Fascist government. The Korperschaftlich Reich Verband, the official (and only) party of the NCR was formed to support Chisel Enterprise's policies, and the two were closely interwoven in terms of their goals. Over 63% of KRV party officials held some kind of position in the Chisel Enterprises corporate structure by the time the war ended.

The transformation of Chisel Enterprises from a profit-motivated company to a Corporatist dictatorship, along with their embracing of anti-Tauran policies led to a severe decline in both popularities and sales to nations outside the NCR, with C.E. being outright banned in several by the war's beginning. The company attempted to subvert this by utilizing their power within the NCR to force out competitors, until C.E. held a monopoly on most public services and products. This was not enough to balance the massive military purchases Chisel Enterprises was making, and the corporation operated at a net loss for the majority of the NCR-IDO war. It also led to a gradual reduction in product quality due to a lack of competition, with Corvega vehicles from the era lacking sufficient shielding for their fusion batteries.

By the time of the war's end, Chisel Enterprises was in severe debt. Numbers are uncertain, but they range from anywhere within seven hundred billion to two trillion Corporate Marks. The loss of the war and the subsequent collapse of the NCR ended their monopoly, and the corporation nearly went bankrupt. Reparation demands by the victorious IDO powers would have destroyed C.E. had it not been for the rise of Paxem and the post-NCR period.

Post-NCR

Chisel Enterprises teetered on the brink of bankruptcy in the weeks directly following the fall of the Neu Corporate Republik. During this time, several prior high-ranking corporate executives distanced themselves from the company, often taking corporate subdivisions with them. Heavily in debt, fragmenting away, and without leadership, the company appeared to certainly be on its way to collapse.

In the wake of Florian Steinbauer's imprisonment, Stanford Wesker was appointed CEO of Chisel Enterprises. He immediately authored the sale of nearly all of Chisel Enteprises military stock before it could be forcibly seized. The armaments produced for the NCR-IDO war now found its way into the hands of governments and corporations, with the largest purchaser being the newly-formed Paxemese government, which banned Chisel Enterprises from ever having a military within its borders again.

Rumors abound as to how Wesker secured the massive sale to Paxem, with accusations of bribery and corruption being common. However, the truth is that the Paxemese government recognized that the collapse of Chisel Enterprises and its default on their debt meant the collapse of their economy as well as a continental recession. Other, more illicit actors purchased weapons from Chisel Enterprises as well. Terrorist groups, city gangs, and rogue states were all among the secret clientele which purchased the vast stocks of weapons available after the war. This has led to old CE-produced standard-issue automatic rifles such as the Machtgewehr-20 being commonplace on the streets of wartorn regions.

With the sale of almost all of their military stock, Chisel Enterprises was able to avoid immediate bankruptcy and pay off 33% of their accrued debt. This was only a minor improvement in their financial situation, however, with demands for reparations coming up to nearly a trillion marks. The Paxemese government declined to assist Chisel Enterprises in paying the reparations or stand behind them if they denied responsibility. In this tense situation, where the Paxemese government itself refused to pay reparations demanded from itself by the IDO, an eventual Oscdean maneuver interrupted the IDO's meeting over securing money owed and dissolved the organization. Suddenly, Chisel Enterprises was free to not pay the reparations demanded by the now isolated ex-IDO nations. Their inability and refusal to pay left them banned from operating in many of these countries.
