She is the lead ship of her class and will operate as Wiltshire's flagship. She was constructed at Eddington Naval Base in [[Wiltshire]] and was named after USS Cassin Young, a United States naval ship that operated in the 20th century, originally named for US Navy Admiral Cassin Young was received a medal of honour for his heroism during the attack on Pearl Harbour.

The ship was laid down on April 2, 3020 and construction completed on April 18, 3020. She was commissioned and held her maiden voyage on April 19, 3020, where she began her sea trials. She is expected to finish her sea trials soon, provided no issues arise, where she will leave Eddington Base for a tour of the member states of the Democratic Union of the Doggerlands (DUOD). The name ''Cassin Young ''was chosen by a select committee within the Navy following an online consultation poll. The poll results were never released, however, in a statement that Navy said;<blockquote>The poll was invaluable to the naming process, and the name chosen would not have even been considered if the poll hasn't taken place.</blockquote>It is believed the name ''Cassin Young'', after a 20th century American naval vessel, likely came from historians - due to the name's lack of public fame.

In addition to the name ''Cassin Young'', the name ''Kitty Hawk'', was also selected to be used by the second ''Cassin Young''-class Aircraft carriers.
