Stationed on the border between Balancía and Shipley, the castle is the seat of power for the Duke of Mountbatten. Historically, the Dreadfort has been a major hub for military activity. In particular, it was the headquarters for Lancastrian-Maekar military forces during the 3021 War of the Balancín Succession. The Lord of the Dreadfort is currently [[The Lord Maekar|Zacarias Maekar, the Duke of Mountbatten]].

Built in the 2800s during the Pius Revolution by [[Elisa II of Pius|Queen Elisa II]]. It was conquered by the first Lord Maekar, known as Maekar the Brutal, on behalf of the Crusade to restore King [[Antony Edmund II]]. Since, it has passed down through the House of Maekar to Lord Zacarias. Zacarias' son, Roberto, died in 2996 and so the heir to the Dreadfort is Roberto's only child, [[Mary, Queen of Balancía|Mary Maekar]] - the former Queen who abdicated in 3022.
