Oberon's death in 2801 left further uncertainty when his will left the crown to his youngest brother, Demeter, over the more senior Antony. Antony contested the will upon the grounds of his right by primogeniture and the Cortes Generales obliged. The decision to back Antony's claim to the throne, above the wishes of Oberon's last will and testament, is typically believed to be due to Antony's status as a married man with children. Demeter, on his part, had no children and looked likely to continue Oberon's celibacy.

The reign of Oberon is a relatively unnoteworthy one, with his pro-religious policies, while being more extreme than his father, was still in line with the Pontifical world of the time.
